JAMIE Mackie admits he had to overcome a mental battle before coming on to score two late goals at Blackburn on Saturday.

It was more than a year ago, on his last visit to Ewood Park, that Mackie broke his leg, leading to a nine-month lay-off as QPR clinched the Championship title.

Mackie was a sub on his first return to Blackburn, and conceded what happened there last time was playing on his mind before he came on.

He said: “I was warming up with some of the boys near where it happened and was talking to them about it, and how quickly the year has gone since.

“But you have a job to do out there, you just put it out of your mind. It was the worst moment of my career, but I've put it behind me now.

“I was really happy I took the goals, but I was as gutted as anyone else about the result. We really need to start picking up points, and personal thoughts go out of the window.”

Mackie also believes, played more up front, he can provide the goals which will help QPR escape the clutches of the relegation zone.

He added: “I'm gutted I couldn't change the scoreline, you can only do the best you can, but another 10 minutes and I think we would have won.

“I was delighted to be up front too as I haven't been playing there much. I will play wherever I'm told to, but I feel my best position is up front, and that is where I can benefit the team most.”
