Edgar Davids has insisted his side are continuing to progress as Barnet kept a clean sheet in their 0-0 stalemate with Welling United on Tuesday.

The result ensured the Bees stretched their unbeaten league run to seven matches, but Cambridge United’s 4 -0 thrashing of Aldershot means Barnet now trail the Skrill Premier leaders by 12 points.

With Barnet entertaining Cambridge this weekend, Davids remains convinced his side are moving forward and remains optimistic.

“You have to look for progression and if you don’t see any progress you are not going to get very far but up until now I still see progress,” the Barnet player-head coach said.

“We like big games and we hope we’ll be ready for Saturday. They’re the best team in the league. They’re 12 points clear of us so we have to really work hard to get a good result against them.

“It would be good to win but you don’t underestimate Cambridge they have a very good defence and they are scoring as well.

“It’s a very good team a strong team you look at their results they are a very strong side so we know we have to work for it.”

The Bees made a strong start to the game against Welling but failed to create many clear opportunities in the second half.

Big miss: Keanu Marsh-Brown

Davids felt his side missed the attacking threat of Keanu Marsh-Brown, who was out suspended following his red card against Preston at the weekend, as well as striker Jake Hyde and Dani Lopez, both unavailable through injury.

“It’s definitely a blow when you don’t really have the top goalscorers playing with us so you’re always at a disadvantage,” Davids said.

“The team worked hard and it was a very good first half performance but second half we could have done a bit more.

“I thought second half was a bit flat but the important thing is that we kept a clean sheet and we hope for a good result on Saturday.”
