Rasmus Ankersen insists that Marinus Djkhuizen will not get sacked if his side hit a bad run of form.

The Dutchman was unveiled as the new Brentford head coach after leading his Excelsior side to safety in the Dutch Eredivisie last season.

Ankersen, who has also been named as the Bees’ new co-Director of Football, has given his full backing to the new boss and believes the club will stick by their man.

He said: “He definitely has our support. Football is very black and white, but one of its biggest problems is when you make decisions on a temporary variation in results.

“This short-termism is causing a lot of bad decisions. We want to look at our performances in a wider expectation, and look beyond what is obvious, in terms of if you have won or lost.

New boss: Marinus Dijkhuizen

“We felt that is very important when you measure the impact that a head coach or manager has.”

The Dane, who is Chariman of Matthew Benham's FC Midtjylland as well, was also impressed with Dijkhuizen’s open-mindedness and innovativeness.

He added: We wanted a coach that was open-minded, who had shown that he could create results by thinking differently.

“Brentford is not a football club that has to win by spending more money than competition; we need to win by outthinking competition.

“When we met him, he felt he was an innovative and open-minded person.

“He was a great character in terms of combining the openness to new things, with experience and shown he can create results.

“The job he did in Excelsior was magnificent and we think giving him the opportunity he can do really well.”
