Kind-hearted Hampton & Richmond Borough fans have dug deep to raise £1,000 to fund a knee operation for Rob Paris.

The popular centre-back was due to go under the knife on Tuesday, and the initial target of £500 was blown away.

The whip-round was taken at the official launch of Hampton's new supporters' trust at Beveree after Saturday's 4-1 win over Weston-Super-Mare.

The evening, which also marked the end of Hampton's successful fortnight of summer coaching for kids, quickly turned into a fundraiser for Paris.

Earlier in the day, another centre-back, Elliott Braithwaite, made his Beavers bow as Weston-Super-Mare were beaten out of sight.

Alan Devonshire's men were quick out of the blocks, with three goals in the first 23 minutes sealing their first Blue Square South win of the season.

Stuart Lake opened the scoring on 11 minutes with a deflected free-kick and fired home a second just six minutes later.

Fellow midfielder Robbie Kember added a third five minutes later, and although the visitors pulled one back before the break, Kember bagged his second after the break when Lawrence Yaku chased a seemingly lost cause to byline and crossed in.

The only low point for the Beavers was an ankle ligament injury to Sean MacAuley, which could keep him out for up to six weeks.

MacAuley's injury, however, did pave the way for new signing, ex-Aston Villa and Bournemouth midfielder Stephen Cooke, to come

off the bench for his Hampton debut.

Meanwhile, Hampton's first reserve team game in eight years ended in a 3-2 win over Harefield United.

Otto Yovonne, James Bailey and James

Blackshaw ensured a winning start for the new second string side, managed by Andy Cook.
