Sam Wood would probably still be trying to flog jeans and jumpers if Andy Scott hadn't snapped him up this summer.

Wood joined the the Bees from Bromley in May after two years at the Courage Stadium - but the Blue Square South side are only part-time, and the 21-year-old worked in high street store USC to support his football.

Now the Londoner is determined to sell himself to Scott, and seal a spot in the Brentford FC starting XI.

He said: "I worked part-time in Bluewater, but it wasn't a hard decision to give it up.

"Full-time football is going to be different. Hopefully I can impress the gaffer and get a place in the team."

Wood can operate at either left-wing or left-back, but insists he doesn't mind where he plays.

He added: "I played left mid-field at Bromley, but I've been brought here to play left-back.

"But I'm not bothered where I play, as long as I'm in the team."

Meanwhile, Wood was made Brentford captain for the friendly against his former side on Tuesday night, which Bromley won 2-1.
