Exeter City have revealed they have received no approach from Fulham for manager Paul Tisdale.

Tisdale emerged as a contender to replace Kit Symons at the Craven Cottage helm after reports suggested he was on a three-man shortlist for the job.

Reading boss Steve Clarke and out-of-work Nigel Pearson were the other two coaches touted as the men being considered by the Whites, according to Sky sources.

Tisdale’s name was something of a surprise to most people given he has never managed above the third tier and the Grecians gaffer remains the longest-serving manager in the Football League.

The gossip didn’t shock Exeter Chairman Julian Tagg though, who feels Tisdale is more than capable of making the step up to the Championship, but is yet to hear from the Cottagers.

Tagg told the Exeter Express and Echo: "There has been no contact from Fulham, but we are not surprised he has been linked with the job.

"Paul continues to develop players and improve our club on a daily basis and it is always a worry when a job comes up, because inevitably and unsurprisingly he is always likely to be in the frame.”

Tagg went on to confirm the Grecians would not stand in the way of the 42-year-old if Fulham did come calling for his services.

Tisdale, known for his fashion choices, guided Exeter to back-to-back promotions from the Conference to League one between 2008 and 2009 before the club slipped back down to League Two three years later.

Fulham, on a poor run of form having won just twice in their last seven Championship outings, are currently 12th in the table and some way short of the play-offs.
