NEWCASTLE United boss Alan Pardew has confirmed his interest in QPR striker Loic Remy .

The Magpies missed out on the French frontman in January as he opted to join Rangers from Marseille instead.

However, Remy's six goals in 13 starts wasn't enough to save the R's from the drop.

QPR have already started slashing the wage bill, with Chris Samba , DJ Campbell, Jay Bothroyd and Djibril Cisse among those out the door.

Harry Redknapp revealed yesterday that the clear-out is set to continue, although he insisted Remy remained part of his plans.

But Newcastle could test their resolve with a player-plus-cash move for the 26-year-old – defender Steven Taylor is believed to be offered as part of the deal.

Pardew is also interested in Aston Villa outcast Darren Bent.

He told The Journal : "Both of those players are on our list. I make no bones about that.

"But they are under contract at other clubs. It's difficult, you have to be careful. It's nice for our fans to hear names, but I don't want to disrupt other clubs' preparations.

"We have a list of four or five strikers who will push [Papiss] Cisse, Shola [Ameobi], Adam Campbell and Yoan Gouffran because that will be important next season.

"We do need two strikers. Last year, I didn't think there was enough competition in that area for a Premier League team."
