Uwe Rosler admits he leaves Brentford with a heavy heart after his appointment at Wigan Athletic this week.

The German boss was confirmed as Owen Coyle’s successor at the DW Stadium over the weekend after two-and-a-half years at Griffin Park.

Rosler says the chance to move closer to his family in the North West to a club who were in the Premier League last season was too good to turn down.

He said: "It came a little bit out of the blue, I didn’t expect it but Brentford have been very helpful and understood the situation that such a big club like Wigan Athletic had come in for me.

“My family situation has been quite difficult with all the travelling for two-and-a-half years.

"Wigan's a big club that comes from the Premiership. Roberto Martinez did a great job and they are the inspiration for other clubs that this can be done."

SKYBET LEAGUE ONE MANAGER OF THE MONTH
Parting gift: Uwe Rosler was named League One manager of the month for November

Rosler bid an emotional farewell to Brentford’s squad before Saturday’s FA Cup defeat at Carlisle.

And the 45-year-old has thanked Bees owner Matthew Benham for taking a gamble on him.

“It was a difficult situation. Matthew gave me the chance in English football,” he added.

“Mark Warburton and I have worked very closely. We signed all the players and we improved and improved.

“I went up to Carlisle to personally say goodbye to the players before the game. It was very difficult but they understood and that chapter is closed.

"I have to move on and Brentford Football Club will move on.”
