Brazilian wonderkid Nathan confirmed his move to Chelsea via Instagram this week.

The 19-year-old has been in west London for talks with the Blues since April over a proposed move from Atletico Paranaense.

But who is the man behind the headlines?

His full name is Nathan Allan de Souza and he was born on 13 March 1996 in Blumenau, Brazil.

An exciting attacking midfielder in the same mould as many great Samba stars, Nathan could light up the Premier League for years to come.

Let's take a closer look at the boy from Brazil who is about to become Chelsea's latest South American recruit.

Arrival on the world stage

Nathan announced himself on the global stage at the 2013 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in November 2013.

He flew the flag for Brazil by scoring five times as he fired his country into the quarter-finals where they were defeated on penalties by Mexico.

Nathan successfully converted his spot-kick, having scored Brazil’s equaliser in the 1-1 draw, however the Mexicans progressed with an 11-10 win in the end-of-game lottery from 12 yards.

His performances earned him a spot in FIFA’s Team of the Tournament.

Promotion to first-team

Nathan tore apart defences in the UAE but went into the tournament as a regular for Atletico Paranaense’s U19s side.

His heroics at the World Cup saw him handed his chance in the club’s first-team and made his debut in May last year, going on to make 11 appearances.

However, Nathan’s story is not a complete fairytale as the teenager recently went through a bitter contract dispute with the Serie A club.

Paranaense had told the player’s agent and father, Jose Carlos de Souza, they wanted to trigger a clause in his contract to keep him at the club for two more years.

Nathan’s camp attempted to release him from his contract but with a £4.5million fee now believed to have been agreed with Chelsea, the Brazilian is expected to leave with his club’s blessing.

Adapting to life in England

Nathan won’t be short of pals in west London as he joins a growing contingent of Brazilians at Stamford Bridge.

Filipe Luis, Ramires, Oscar, Willian, Wallace and Lucas Piazon are already on the Premier League champions’ books.

He may have to follow the latter two, Wallace and Piazon, in heading out on loan before forcing his way into Chelsea’s first-team plans.

Dream move

Nathan took to Instagram this week to declare the move complete.

He wrote: "A dream is coming true!

"First of all I want to thank God for always lighting my way, my dad who always believed in my talent and was a real warrior while helping me to reach my goals, my family and friends who always supported me...

"And I am also thankful to Club Atletico Paranaense, which was part of this journey and where I played for 6 years of my career. Thank you Chelsea for trusting in me, I will do my best to support my team on reaching new achievements. We are all Blue."

Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool were all vying for his signature.

Where will he fit into Chelsea’s team?

Nathan is best suited to an attacking midfield role but can also be deployed as a second striker.

The Blues certainly aren’t short of players of his ilk, his international compatriot Oscar to name but one, and a loan spell away from the Bridge would perhaps be the best option.

Any move would also be subject to Home Office approval on a work permit for the U20 international, with a stint abroad offering another option should this prove a stumbling block.

His playing style has been described as ‘dazzling’ and his partnership at the U17 World Cup with good friend Mosquito was drew comparisons with Brazil’s legendary Bebeto-Romario pairing.

Jose Mourinho has already had the chance to grill the player face-to-face at the club’s Cobham training ground and may decided to run the rule over him in pre-season.
