Wealdstone new boy Mikhael Jaimez Ruiz was almost forced to hitch a ride home from the seaside on Saturday after his teammates left without him.

The former Aldershot stopper only joined stones on dual registration from Hayes & Yeading United last week and had a quiet debut in a comfortable 3-1 win at Bognor.

Perhaps the 29-year-old Venezuelan had not had sufficient chance to get noticed by his new club-mates.

But whatever the reason, following a quick stop at the off licence to celebrate their latest win on the road, Jaimez Ruiz was missed off the headcount when everyone got back on board and left holding the beers and contemplating a long walk back to London.

The way skipper Sean Cronin broke the news on Twitter was enough to suggest this was not some sort of initiation ceremony, but a genuine oversight by the team.

He said: “I can’t believe we have gone and left the new keeper in the off-licence, while the Stones’ fans’ official Twitter site quipped, “Now, having pulled away, we’ve left the keeper behind – should be back just about in time to leave for Lowestoft on Tuesday.”

Tuesday’s match against Lowestoft was a victim of the weather and was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
