FORGET the pretty stuff – playing as a solid unit and scrapping for points is what will earn QPR their place back in the Premier League, according to Danny Simpson.

The 26 year old summer signing already has two Championship title on his CV, with Sunderland in 2006-07 and with Newcastle in 2009-10.

But while not ruling out his new side playing some eye-catching stuff, Simpson warned that you have to earn the right to play football in this division.

He said: “We've got the quality, and it will show at times, but being being able to scrap is just as important in this league.

“Everybody here can play football, but if you can't do the ugly side too you are going nowhere, as to come away from home and win at places like Bolton is tough.

“We played some good stuff, but in the last 20 minutes we were fighting and scrapping, and doing it together as a team.”

Saturday's 1-0 win at The Reebok was QPR's second successive clean sheet in the league, meaning Simpson and his fellow defenders have still only been breached twice this season.

He added: “In this league it's important to be solid, not just as a back five but as a team, and we have started to show that over the last few weeks.

“It's massively important to work as a unit as you start to build up partnerships and relationships, and that is showing in the clean sheets we are keeping.

“I feel I've really settled in now, and things couldn't be going any better on and of the pitch.”
