JOSE Mourinho has dismissed speculation about the future of Juan Mata, saying the player is not for sale.

The Spaniard, who enjoyed a superb season at Stamford Bridge last time around, has looked unfit and off form since the start of the campaign following two seasons of virtually unbroken football.

It has even been suggested that Mata might be used as a bargaining chip to persuade Manchester United to part with Wayne Rooney - the club weighing up a third offer for the England striker after Monday's meeting between the teams at Old Trafford.

But there is no question of the Chelsea looking to offload him, insists Chelsea's boss.

“There is no speculation,” Mourinho said. “He’s a player we all like. He's a player we all want to keep. We want more quality in the team, we don't want less quality. We want to add quality to the quality we have, so Juan is not a player we want to lose.”
