He may be one of the foreign legion himself – but Jose Mourinho reckons there are too many overseas managers in the English game.

The Chelsea boss recently saw Steve Clarke, his assistant during his successful first spell at Stamford Bridge, sacked as West Brom manager and replaced by Spaniard Pepe Mel.

All of which means only half of all Premier League clubs have British managers, with only six of those English.

Mourinho said: “I feel sorry for the British manager because we have too many foreigners at the moment. I may be speaking against myself, but we have too many when you see the quality of the British manager. I would like to see more opportunities for British managers.”

The Blues boss also believes the month long January transfer window should be slashed in half to just two weeks, although he insists it's not a distraction to him.

He added: “The transfer is only a distraction if you want to be distracted. If you were to close it, I wouldn't say it is a bad decision. Maybe a two week window to help clubs who need it, but a month is quite a lot when you have a long period in the summer.”
