Chairman Martin Noblett was able to take positives away from a frustrating night for Rayners Lane on Tuesday.

The Lane ended their campaign with a 2-2 draw at home to Chinnor as Denis Nortey’s two-goal salvo was not enough to secure victory.

Chinnor grabbed a late leveller at Tithe Farm to deny Mick Bradshaw’s side three points in their final game of the Hellenic League Division One East season.

However, Noblett was pleased with the battling performances on display from the Lane players and says several new additions caught the eye.

“It was a tough game,” he said. “The second-half was fiercely competitive and there was about six bookings for each side, which tells you how strong you needed to be.

“Their goal came just a few minutes from the end so it was frustrating that we just couldn’t quite get that last win.

“Mick played a few new players, with a view to looking ahead to next season, and from what I saw it looks like he has a few good acquisitions there. From that point of things are very much looking up for us.”

Lane were champions last season but look set to finish just below the halfway mark this term when all is said and done, with much of the division still having fixtures left to play.

It has been a season of transition at Tithe Farm and Bradshaw’s men have finished up with 10 wins, five draws and 11 losses from their 26 matches this term.

Meanwhile, in the Combined Counties Premier, Wembley will be hoping to get back to winning ways tonight (Thursday) against bottom-of-the-table Chessington & Hook.

The Lions were beaten 1-0 at home by Camberley Town on Tuesday night, however they fared far better on Saturday after claiming a 4-2 victory over Alton Town. Yassine Fehmi-Gil starred with all four goals for Ian Bates’ side.
