New assistant manager Steve Matthews took charge of Bedfont Sports for the first time on Saturday as boss Anthony Yearsley was at a wedding.

With most of the senior players there too, Matthews, formerly boss of neighbours Bedfont FC, blooded some youngsters in their 3-1 defeat to Woking & Horshall.

The loss came on the back of last Tuesday's 6-1 thrashing of Tornadoes, in which Neville Barratt bagged a brace, while Ben Buzzard and Luke Whiteman were among the other scorers. Sports' pre-season has also seen wins over Chalfont St Peter (3-0) and Marsh Rangers (6-3), a 1-1 draw with Ryman League side Walton Casuals, plus narrow defeats to Egham (2-1), Uxbridge (4-3) and Hanworth Villa (1-0).

Sports begin their Middlesex County League Premier season on Saturday week when they travel to Bethnal Green.

Meanwhile, Barry McWilliam hit a hat-trick as Bedfont Sunday A hammered AFC Kingston 7-2 on Sunday, with Vinny Hodge netting twice and Spencer Baldini and Harry Driver also on target.
