Jose Mourinho says the need to build for the longer term is more important than making any signings in the transfer window.

The Blues manager admits his team may not be the finished article, but he believes they will still be competitive and need not worry about this season too much.

“The market is open but for us, almost closed,” Mourinho said.

“This squad is good enough for my first season for the objectives of the first season and to prepare the next season.

“We are happy with the squad we have. If we can improve the squad to prepare for next season, we will do that, but we have players with stability and we know where we are.

“We are preparing for the future, but competing in the present. We are willing to fight every game and going to try to win every game in every competition.”

Mourinho added: “I think the fans had an enjoyable decade – they enjoyed the team they had for the past 10 years, that was basically a team with a structure, a spine of the same players season after season – now we are building another team for another period of seven or eight years or so.

“Our nature doesn't stop us fighting for the title, though. But we are preparing a team for the future.”
