Sam Wood has hailed Marcus Bean as Brentford FC's engine.
Wood, a summer signing from Bromley, scored his first goal in Brentford colours at Exeter on Sunday in Brentford's 2-0 win.
But he prefered to put the spotlight on Bean, whose midfield partnership with Kevin O'Connor has meant the Bees have not missed Gary Smith too much during his long-term injury absence.
Wood said: "Beano's a good all-round player. He's the engine in our team.
"He is strong, good on the ball and in the air, like he showed against Bournemouth."
Meanwhile, Brentford look set to have a free day on Saturday as Droylesden were yesterday kicked out of the FA Cup, meaning a reprieve for the Bees' weekend opponents, Chesterfield.
Droylesden's appeal will be heard today, but it is unlikely the FA's decision will be reversed.
