CHELSEA’S breathtaking win over Manchester United will be worthless if the Blues do not beat Blackpool on Monday, says Frank Lampard .

The midfielder, who handed Chelsea the win by scoring a contentious penalty, says the key to resurrecting their league form lies in finding the ‘old Chelsea’ which terrorised sides at the start of the season.

He said: "Nothing is a given and every game is tough: if we go on and not get a result against Blackpool in our next game then the Manchester United result means nothing.

"So the old cliche of taking every game as it comes has never been more important for us really.

"We must not get ahead of ourselves. We need to just keep clawing our way back, hope that other teams lose, and then who knows what can happen?

"There was a little bit of the old Chelsea against Manchester United.

"You could see the power in our team, and the commitment and the strength. And I think we deserved that win in the end, definitely.

"Certainly we’ve not been at our best at home recently and it was good for the crowd to see a wholehearted performance with some quality and some spirit. And that enabled us to beat the best team in the league this year so far."

The ‘old Chelsea’ Lampard wants to see return is the side that finished last season scoring seven and eight goals each week; and which comprehensively beat Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in October.

The England star says this side was good enough to beat any team in Europe.

"Of course we can play better, we know that," he said.

"There are times - at the end of last season, start of this season - when we played absolutely top-drawer football. It was probably as good, if not better than anyone in Europe.

"And then lately, we haven’t been playing like that at all. So we can certainly get to higher levels."
