Charlie MacDonald has demanded his team-mates be more ruthless in front of goal.

Brentford made hard work of a 1-0 win over Macclesfield on Saturday, missing a series of sitters which, on another day, would have seen a 4-0 or 5-0 win.

In a wasteful second-half, Nathan Elder, Adam Newton and Marvin Williams all made a hash of seemingly simple chances in the Macclesfield box.

And it was left to MacDonald's predatory first-half strike, following a brilliant one-two between Sam Wood and Glenn Poole, to take the points.

MacDonald said: "I haven't seen three better chances than the ones we missed all season, I just wish they had fallen to me!

"But seriously, we can laugh about it now because we've got the points, but they could really have cost us. We need to be more ruthless."
