CHARLIE MacDonald believes Brentford will be especially fired-up for their top-ofthe table clash with Gillingham at the weekend because they were denied any action on Monday.

The Bees were eager to get last week's 1-0 home defeat by Chesterfield out of their system at Dagenham this week - but a power-failure at a local sub station put paid to that.

The match was only called off after after 8pm, when the players had already warmed up and were raring to go.

The lights went out completely about 15 minutes before kick-off and although some power was restored, the feebleness of the light made a postponement inevitable.

It was a huge embarrassment to the club, who have suffered from such an incident before this season and who had Sky TV waiting to screen the action.

Hundreds of Brentford fans as well as players were left frustrated and MacDonald thinks the team will take it out on the Gills at Griffin Park.

"We will look to the game against Gillingham now and I'm sure we're going to be really up for it," the striker told the Gazette.

"We just want to get a few more wins under our belt again. I think we've been a little bit flat in the last couple of games - apart from the one against Wycombe - and we were looking forward to putting that right against Dagenham.

"We are all disappointed. The lads were up for the game and wanting to bounce back from a disappointing game against Chesterfield last week.

"We were raring to go and to get the warm-up more or less over and done with, only for the lights to suddenly go out was very deflating.

"The referee made a decision and we can't really argue with that. I don't think it could have been played.

"I'm not sure how it came about, but I have heard that it's happened before and it's disappointing because it was going to be on TV as well.

"It's disappointing for the fans who've made their way over here to support us as well. It's a wasted journey and a lot of people will be out of pocket tonight."

MacDonald continued: "We are due another big game and it's what we thrive on really. In the big games this year, we've done really, really well and we look forward to that one and the chance to create a bit more of a gap between ourselves and the teams below us."

Scott said: "It's frustrating not to have been able to play. The results went our way again on Saturday. But we'll play the game at a later date and hopefully be in the same position that we're in now.

"At least this is another opportunity for the new lads to bed in with us a bit better this week before another massive game against Gillingham - and hopefully we'll have another huge crowd again.

"The crowd against Wycombe was absolutely magnificent and a credit not just to Brentford fans but to League Two."

Meanwhile, MacDonald has paid tribute to Jordan Rhodes for his role in the promotion push, which has come to a premature end because of injury.

"I feel for the boy. He worked his backside off when he was here. He got his goals and we formed a very good partnership," MacDonald said.

"I enjoyed playing with him because he's a very intelligent footballer and I wish him all the best for the future. I'm sure he's got a great future in the game.

"The gaffer's replaced the injured players with some new faces and that can only be good for the squad.

"He's brought in some good players this season and hope-fully the latest ones to arrive can pick up the baton and carry us over the finish line with the rest of the boys who've done it all season."
