Callum Elder may be a 21-year-old living in London for the first time in his life but that won't bother him.

The Brentford full back is on loan from Premier League champions Leicester City but he has experience of living away from home from the age of 16.

Elder grew up in Sydney, Australia and was scouted by the Foxes and moved to England with his family 10,500 miles away.

So moving a relatively miniscule 100 miles should not pose a problem for a man who has had to grow up fast.

He said: “At 16 it's never easy leaving your family but it's not something I've thought against. I feel settled in the country now and football is my main focus.

“You could say it's easier moving from Leicester to London than Australia to England.

“London is obviously a bigger city than Leicester but I'm enjoying being down here and experiencing London life. I've not had a chance to get into central yet. I'm enjoying being down here but the main thing is the football.”

He added: Sydney is an amazing place and a beautiful city. All my family are still there and I try to speak to them as often as I can. I'm settled in England now and I'm looking forward to starting at Brentford.”

Elder has also represented his country at youth level and would love to earn a full cap but knows he must impress at Griffin Park to do so.

He explained: My first experience was with the U19 and we were in Malaysia for World Cup qualifiers.

“I want to get international recognition and call-ups. I feel that, first and foremost, if I can achieve good performances with Brentford. The club is my major priority.

“I want to take this chance with both hands and see how far I can go with the squad and the club. It's a close knit club and I want to repay them with performances each week.”
