Frank Lampard has spoken of his heartache at scoring a decisive goal against Chelsea to deny them two points in the fight for silverware.

Lampard came off the bench for Manchester City at Eastlands to net an 85th minute equaliser, as Chelsea dropped their lead against the 10-man reigning champions.

The Blues legend and record goalscorer said: “It’s a real difficult one. I would be unprofessional if I didn’t come on and do my job, so I was trying to get in the box and get one back. It’s a tough one, I had 13 amazing years with the Chelsea fans.

“I’m obviously pleased the team I play for got a draw but it’s a really hard one for me to answer.”

A clearly emotional Lampard had his name sung by Chelsea's visiting suport from the moment he came on the pitch to the moment he approached them with his own tribute at the very end of the match.

He said: “I have said it before, I wish I had said goodbye in front of a full stadium. This is a bit different, something that has come up. I’m playing at this club now — I’m a bit lost for words really. I didn’t think I would come on and score like that.

“I came on and the Chelsea fans were singing. That’s emotional and then I’m playing for this club who have taken me in brilliantly as well. I’m really stuck in the middle here.

“The people at Chelsea, I still talk to a lot of them now. They are unbelievable and it is a very homely club.

“At Man City I have found out exactly the same. I’m very fortunate.

“This is the back end of my career, it’s a short loan period. I’m fortunate I had 13 amazing years at Chelsea and I have come here and been welcomed. They are two massive clubs now.”
