Brentford star Jota has his sights set on another promotion push this season.

The Spanish sensation scored the winner against Alaves that clinched Eibar’s place in La Liga last campaign after smashing 11 goals in 35 games during a successful loan spell from Celta Vigo.

Now the Bees forward wants to repeat the feat and help Mark Warburton’s men to the promised land of the Premier League.

He said: “There is a lot of similarities with Eibar and Brentford. No-one expected Eibar to go up and no-one expected Brentford to be this high in the table.

“Hopefully we can maintain our form and repeat Eibar’s season. We know it is going to be a hard. It is not going to be easy to stay in the position we are in but the team is capable of fighting for promotion.”

Jota revealed he snubbed the chance to play in La Liga to chase his dream of playing in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old, who moulds his game on Manchester City’s David Silva, failed to agree a new deal at Celta and decided to join fellow Spaniard Marcos Tebar in west London after the Bees splashed out more than £1million for his services.

“I always wanted to play in England,” he said. “When Brentford called, I came and liked the expectations of the team. I decided to come here and try a new adventure.

Renewing rivalries: Jota will be hoping for revenge against Fulham on Friday

“I want to play in the Premier League and that is why I came. I had the option of playing in Spain, for a La Liga team, but I wanted to come here to play in the Premier League.”

Jota has scored two goals in 12 Championship starts so far, and will be hoping to add to his tally in tomorrow night’s London derby clash against Fulham.

He added: “It will help Brentford if I can score goals to help keep the team near the top of the league. I scored 13 last season for Eibar. The objective is to get more than that.”
