Jose Mourinho has hinted he is preparing to offer John Terry a new Chelsea contract.

The Blues skipper turns 34 on Sunday but remains integral to the club’s first-team plans.

Terry has formed arguably the strongest defensive partnership in the Premier League alongside England regular Gary Cahill.

He was granted a one-year extension at Stamford Bridge in the summer while pals Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard were allowed to leave the club.

Mourinho today stopped short of confirming his captain would be rewarded with a new contract but told reporters that both Terry and the board are aware his feelings.

“It's not time to speak about it but he knows what I think and what I feel,” Mourinho said of Terry’s contract situation.

Set to stay? John Terry

“The board also knows what I think, but we don't feel the need to share with you.”

Chelsea’s policy is to offer players over the age of 30 an additional 12 months’ stay and any new deal for Terry is likely to continue this trend.

Terry has made 18 appearances for his beloved Blues this term and netted two goals, most recently in last week’s 5-0 thrashing of Schalke in the Champions League.
