Andy Johnson reckons QPR can stop looking for a new striker – they have one already, him.

The Rangers forward insists he is as fit as a butcher’s dog, but has yet to prove it while boss Harry Redknapp opts for just one up front.

The former Fulham man, 33, on February 10 also believes he can win a new contract at Loftus Road when his current deal expires in the summer.

“I had a little bit of a hamstring injury but that was 12, 13 weeks ago. I’ve been fit now for a while now,” he said.

“Sometimes there’s a choice of formation that keeps you out of the team – but that’s not down to me.

“I’m quick and sharp and working hard in training, working on my strength work, hamstrings, glutes and quads and that’s something I do daily.”

When mentioned in the hearing of his boss, Redknapp reckons the former England international has been touch-and-go on a number of recent Saturdays, but the striker who provided the assist for Charlie Austin’s opener in the 2-1 win over Huddersfield is looking forward to extending his career, either with Hoops or somewhere else come July.

“All I can do is train and work hard and when selected try and contribute like I did against Huddersfield.

“I’d love to stay. I love it here but it’s not down to me. Hopefully, towards the end of the season and fingers crossed if I’ve done enough, I will get a new deal. If not I’ll have to look at other options.”
