Brinkmanship can be a dangerous game – especially close to a river – and it could be either Jimmy Bullard or Fulham will take a bath in January.

The Whites midfielder is asking for an improved contract close to £50,000-a-week, but boss Roy Hodgson has already hinted his player’s demands may be a wage-packet too far despite Bullard’s opener in the 3-0 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday.

If contract talks founder, Fulham will want to cash in on a player who has already been a surprise call-up for the England squad this season.

Ben Watson at Crystal Palace, who QPR also want, is the reported target replacement.
