Captain Jake Bidwell has insisted that the Brentford squad are fully behind under-fire head coach Dean Smith.

The Bees have lost their last four games, and seven of their last eight, and supporters have grown frustrated by the slide down the league table.

Bidwell understands why the fans have been angry but maintains that the squad fully support their boss.

He said: “The squad are fully behind Dean. We can understand the supporters' point of view because the results haven't been great.

“You've got to accept criticism when the team isn't doing well so we're having to take it on the chin. It's not through a lack of effort. We're desperate to turn it around.”

Brentford have been guilty of letting their heads drop at critical junctures in recent weeks and Bidwell is determined to put things right on the training ground.

He added: “It possibly is a confidence thing. Confidence is a massive part of football. When people are confident they do things you don't you can when you're not in form.

“The only thing we can do is train hard, as we always do and prepare as best we can for the busy run-in.”
