BRANISLAV Ivanovic has backed John Terry to regain the England armband.

The Chelsea skipper is set to reclaim the honour when the national team take on Wales in a Euro qualifier later this month, having been stripped of the captaincy by Fabio Capello a year ago for alleged off-field scandals.

But team-mate Ivanovic says his role at Stamford Bridge is assured for the rest of his days with the club.

"When I arrived, John Terry was already the captain of Chelsea and seeing how he is doing with everything, for me he will be captain until the end of his Chelsea career," Ivanovic said.

"I'm not in the English team and I don't know a lot about this but when you are captain, you have to have the trust of your team-mates and have a lot of qualities to be a leader – and he has this."

Boss Carlo Ancelotti said: "I can say nothing about this. This is the decision of the national team, but I think he will be happy for this.

"I think he has fantastic experience and has personality to be captain."
