MARK Hughes held talks with Zoltan Gera yesterday in a bid to persuade the Hungarian to stay at Fulham.

The wantaway winger has refused to sign a contract extension at Craven Cottage after being restricted to a bit-part role this season, and looks certain to leave in the summer.

But boss Hughes made a last-ditch attempt to convince the 32-year-old that his future lies in SW6.

He said: "I spoke to him yesterday and I would like him to make a decision to stay here.

"Zolly wants to play more than he has done. He's looking at his offers and will make a choice."

Gera was red-carded in what could be his last appearance in a Fulham shirt in this afternoon's draw in Arsenal for a two-footed lunge on Thomas Vermaelen.

The dismissal threatens to wreck the club's European bid through the Fair Play league.

"It's really disappointing if his Fulham career ends on that note," added Hughes.

"It was over enthusiasm. He had no intent to hurt the player."
