Former Brentford striker Clinton Morrison has claimed credit for Olly Watkins' belter for the Bees at Bolton Wanderers yesterday.

Watkins cut in from the left before unleashing a rocket into the top corner to put the icing on the cake late on in Brentford's 3-0 win at the Macron Stadium.

It was the third of three spectacular goals the Bees scored in the game, and Morrison, acting as a pundit on The Championship, was asked by presenter Colin Murray to rate them in order of best.

Morrison, who played eight games for the Bees on loan from Sheffield Wednesday at the end of the 2011-12 season, surprised Murray by plumping for Watkins over stunners from Nico Yennaris and Yoann Barbet.

But Morrison had a personal reason behind his selection – he played alongside Watkins for two years when winding down his Football League career at Exeter City – leaving the Grecians a year before Brentford raided them for Watkins.

“Barbet, great free kick great technique, but got to give him third,” said Morrison. “Yennaris, this is another great strike into the top corner, but that's second place.

“The winner has to go to Olly Watkins because I taught him how to score like this when I was at Exeter, jinked inside and whipped it top corner.

“They are three tremendous goals and I'm pleased for Olly Watkins, he deserves that.”

Great goal: Ollie Watkins

Murray retorted with: “Yennaris will be ringing the police soon, that an absolute robbery.”

The duo went on to praise the way the Bees have been playing during a tough start to the season – yesterday's being their first win of the campaign.

“They've been playing very attractive football, Brentford do that under Dean Smith,” Morrison added.

“Obviously they haven't been putting the ball in the net, but today they scored three blinders.”
