Brentford's summer spending saw them ranked 12th in the Championship, although they spent considerably less than the average.

The Bees spent £5,490,000 during the transfer window, according to figures taken from transfermarkt.co.uk, which was more than half of their division rivals.

However, on average, clubs spent 8.9m on players with Middlesbrough spending a whopping £50m in the window.

A total of £213.7m was spent in transfer fees by the division’s clubs in the most recent window.

That’s actually down from the £242m they spent last summer.

Those figures are just for spending and don’t take into account money raised from sales.

Teams sold a total of £239.7m worth of players, meaning that the division as a whole earned £26m in terms of net spending. That’s up from £2m last summer, £8.5m the summer before and £20.5m the summer before that.

When it comes to net spend, the Bees are 18th, having made a profit of £6,570,000.

Wolves spent the most, when factoring in sales, with £15,430,000 stumped up, followed by Sheffield Wednesday and Reading.

A total of 83 of the players signed by Championship clubs this summer (49%) joined from other Football League clubs.

Those transfers were worth a total of £90.6m.

Almost as much money was spent purchasing players from Europe as it was from the Football League.

Championship clubs bought 46 players from European sides (27% of all those signed) for a combined total of £82.9m.

Only 29 players (17%) joined from Premier League clubs with a total of £36m making its way up a division.
