Brentford head coach Dean Smith has described Ollie Watkins as his 'utensil' with the forward taking to Championship football like a duck to water.
The summer signing from Exeter has impressed since moving to Griffin Park, scoring against Bristol City, and has thrived in a number of different positions.
Smith described Josh Clarke, who can play anywhere along the right flank as a polyfiller player, but Watkins who can play in any forward position, was deemed a utensil.
The head coach said: “He's my utensil. He's a player who can fill in in other areas and we look for those people.
“We have Lewis Macleod who can play in a wide area or in a number eight or number 10.”
Watkins was worn out towards the end of the 2-1 loss at Sheffield Wednesday but Smith is keen to point out that it's his first season in the second tier after plying his trade in the fourth division of English football.
The Brentford boss added: “He has taken to the Championship like a duck to water. He looked a bit tired at Sheffield Wednesday but we have to remember he's stepped up from League Two. He's another who can score goals.”
