Hayes & Yeading United will this week discover whether they are permitted to begin the season back home at their Beaconsfield Road Stadium.

United have been without their own base after selling their Church Road ground to Barratt Homes in 2011 and have since shared use of Woking and Maidenhead’s stadiums.

Crippling fees of around £1,200 a game to play in Berkshire put the club at breaking point and Hayes & Yeading were forced to seek a £300,000 external investment.

That funding was secured in January of this year and building work on the site of their new home has progressed along at a pace in recent times.

Floodlights were switched on for the first time at the ground this month while entrance gates and turnstiles have been installed over the past few weeks.

Chairman Tony O’Driscoll assured supporters that the club was expecting to return to the borough for the start of the Southern League campaign and now D-day is looming.

A club statement read: “As anyone who has visited the ground over the past weeks will confirm, work is continuing at a good pace, as the summer time flies by and the season approaches.

“The exterior fencing is nearing completion now, and the pitch advertising boards are now arriving at the ground to be placed in front of the main stand.

“Over the next week we have meetings arranged with the safety authorities and the Southern Football League, and it is at these meetings that confirmation as to where we can start the season off and the final details for the pre-season game on Friday evening against Hendon.”

Hayes & Yeading do already have a contingency plan in place if the authorities deem Beaconsfield Road unsuitable for the big kick-off.

An agreement to continue using Maidenhead’s York Road has been drawn up in the event it is needed as another temporary measure.

Meanwhile, Jim Fenlon has rejoined United after a spell away while former Reading star James Harper has agreed to play on for another year after ended the season at the club.

Powerful striker Melford Simpson has been added to the ranks while academy starlets Lucas Sinclair, Ethan Grant and Jack Raines have signed first-team forms.

Left-back Kamal Guthmy has earned a deal after impressing on trial and Adam Everitt will remain as captain next season after signing on for another campaign.
