A decision on whether Hayes & Yeading can return home could come by the end of the month, according to Tony O’Driscoll.

United’s Chairman confirmed league representatives will inspect the work at their Beaconsfield Road site with a view to them staging league games there from the start of next season.

In order to start playing football at the SkyEx Community Stadium, the ground must first meet the National Ground Grading Category B standard.

A green light from the authorities would end five years of nomadic existence for the merged club, but O’Driscoll is taking nothing for granted.

“It is about money isn’t it - if we had the money we’d definitely be in there,” he said.

“We are trying and we might just scrape in there by the start of next year.

“The league is going to come down by the end of the month and say either yes we think you will be in there by August or no we don’t think you will be, so it is going to be down to them.”

Despite his note of caution O’Driscoll did confirm the building works themselves have been gathering pace in recent months.

“The turnstiles are being built at the moment and all the seats are in,” he added. “The concrete screeding has also down in all of the rooms, including the changing rooms, so there is a lot being done.”

The FA's ground grading deadline is listed as March 31, although in previous years the Football Conference have permitted United an extension on this date.

These extensions would have allowed Hayes & Yeading to move back to Beaconsfield Road midway through a campaign.
