Chelsea's season comes to an end in Cardiff on Sunday and then the real work begins for Jose Mourinho as the Blues manager starts his search for more firepower.

Demba Ba, Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o have all struggled at times this season and are partly to blame for Chelsea’s failure to capture the Premier League title.

And with the opening of the transfer window nigh, the Special One has made clear where his first, second and third priorities lie.

Heading home? Chelsea's Fernando Torres has been tipped for a return to Madrid

“We don’t have the kind of striker able to, in a short space, to make an action, to score a goal, to open the gate,” he said.

“Against teams that are more defensive, more aggressive, more worried about trying to keep a clean sheet than really to play, we keep saying the same.”

That was clear on Sunday, as Chelsea limped their way through a bore draw with now effectively relegated Norwich at Stamford Bridge.

Transfer target: Diego Costa of Atletico Madrid

The expectation is that Ba will pick-up the transfer he has sought since January, out-of-contract Eto’o will be released, and Torres will be a makeweight as part of the deal to bring in Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa.

There was a thrilling end to the season elsewhere within the club, as Chelsea’s U18s won a thrilling FA Youth Cup final 7-6 on aggregate over neighbours Fulham.

The young Whites had won the first leg 3-2 at Craven Cottage. But a 5-3 win for the young Blues on Monday night at Stamford Bridge, completed by a last gasp goal from Dominic Solanke, saw the trophy return to Chelsea for the third time in five seasons.

Injury: Cech has gone under the knife

Meanwhile, Chelsea's first-team arrangements are taking on a very summery feel.

The Blues last night confirmed that Petr Cech's shoulder surgery will sideline him for eight to 10 weeks.

That, of course, will not mean him missing any competitive fixtures but it will increase speculation that on-loan goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois could be set to start next season at the club following his three-season stint at Atletico Madrid.

Making the call: Brazil manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has selected four Chelsea players

Former Chelsea boss Luis Felipe Scolari has named four Blues players in his Brazil squad for the Selecao's first home World Cup in 64 years.

And all three of the Blues' Nigerian internationals could join them in Brazil.

John Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and Kenneth Omeruo have been named in Stephen Keshi's provisional 30-man squad.
