THE HANWORTH Villa success story continued last weekend with two more league titles.

On Saturday, Hanworth Villa 3rds won one and lost one of their double-header with Horseed to lift the Middlesex County League Division Three (Hounslow & District) title.

And the following day, Hanworth Villa Sunday B did likewise in Chiswick & District Sunday League Intermediate after getting the better of Duke Rangers Reserves in their winner-takes-it-all double-header.

Hanworth Villa 3rds knew they needed only one point from the six available against Horseed to claim their crown, but took all three from the first game.

An Anthony Agostini brace, plus further strikes from Barry Mackin and James Poole, secured a 4-2 victory.

All of which meant the second game was a bit of a damp squib, and manager Tony Woodward put out a weakened side which lost 3-1, despite a Sam Talbot strike.

Woodward said: "It’s been a hard finish to the season, with six games in the last three weeks, but we deserved it in the end."

The Sunday B side started the following day behind Duke Rangers Reserves, but overtook them with a 3-2 win in the first game.

Pete Brookes, Darren Higgs and Tony O’Sullivan netted for the Villa, while Dean Inman and Kieran Newport replied for Duke.

All of which meant Villa only needed to avoid defeat in the second game, and Higgs put the title within touching distance when he opened the scoring.

But Inman, who is a Hampton & Richmond Borough reserve player, made them sweat when he equalised from the spot with 10 minutes left.

Villa boss Dave Davis said: "It was a close call in the end, but we held on."

For Duke Rangers Reserves, a strange scenario now unfolds.

Having finished second, they earned promotion to the Chiswick & District Sunday Premier, where their first team has just been relegated from.

But as the league will not allow the second string to play higher than the first XI, the reserves will now become the first team and vice-versa.

Meanwhile, back at the Villa, the Sunday C team, who wrapped up their Chiswick Division One title a long time ago, completed their league season unbeaten.

Charlie McCarthy, Melvyn Raggett and Lee O’Riley all bagged braces as they won 6-1 at West London Phoenix in their final game.

But for manager Jim Silberry, their fantastic season could end on a sour note.

He said: "Because we use a few of the Saturday first team players, there’s been some pressure on us to pack in playing so we don’t risk injury to them. But I’m determined to keep it going, even if we bring some youngsters through."
