HAMPTON & Richmond Borough have now rekindled the spirit which got them to two successive Blue Square South play-offs, according to Dean Inman.

Following those two memorable campaigns, the Beavers have struggled this term and have been treading water above the drop zone for much of it.

However, they bounced back from Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Maidenhead with a 3-1 win over Bath City on Tuesday night, having fallen a goal behind to the play-off chasers.

Defender Inman, who has come on leaps and bounds this season after coming through the Beveree ranks, helped the cause with the second goal.

He said: "That's the sort of spirit we showed for the first two years in this league, and we'll need to keep showing it during the run-in.

"That's the sort of performance we know we're capable of and have been threatening for a while.

"The league table will make for better reading now, but we've never really worried about relegation as we know we've got the quality to get out of it, especially with the games in hand."

Hampton fell behind to a brilliant Kaid Mohammed strike on Tuesday night but were level just four minutes later through a deflected Dave Tarpey free-kick.

Two goals in as many minutes straight after the interval won the game for Hampton, Inman heading home a long throw and Craig Dundas lobbing the keeper from just inside the area.

The Beavers could even afford the luxury of a missed penalty from Barrie Matthews, who struck the post from the spot after Tarpey was fouled.

And Inman praised centre-back partner, the immense Dean Wells, who defended as if his life depended on it.

Inman added: "Deano is a great influence on me and I'm learning a lot from playing alongside him."

Hampton are now a comfortable 11 points off the drop zone ahead of a home game against Eastleigh tomorrow, and a trip to Woking on Tuesday night.
