Chelsea face Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

In what would ordinarily be described as a clash between title contenders, the story this season is very different.

Chelsea are looking solid under Guus Hiddink but remain marooned in 13th place after a goalless draw with Watford on Wednesday night.

United on the other hand, have hit good form and were particularly impressive in their 3-0 victory over Stoke on Tuesday.

Supporters of both clubs have little reason to celebrate, with United five points adrift of a Champions League place as Chelsea try and make up for a dire start to the season.

The Blues boss is set to do battle with his compatriot Louis van Gaal in a third country after domestic meetings in both Holland and Spain.

Here are give things we learned from Hiddink's press conference ahead of the match this weekend.

Alexandre Pato out for foreseeable future

Alexandre Pato: Pre-season praying

Bad news for those Chelsea fans who can't wait to see their new Brazilian striker in action.

The forward is several weeks away from full fitness and will definitely not be in the squad for the match with Manchester United.

With Falcao and Remy also sidelined, Hiddink must wish the club signed a striker capable of making an immediate impact, especially on loan.

He said: “Pato is in pre-season and we have a training plan which he is doing now.

“He will not be available for the upcoming games.”

Pedro a doubt

Groin injury: Pedro

Pedro is uncertain for the clash on Sunday after suffering a groin injury.

The Spanish winger will be put through his paces with intensive training over the weekend and the club will make a late decision regarding his selection.

He will be a big miss as the Blues may have looked to utilise his pace on the counter-attack.

Loic Remy's return

Loic Remy: Returns next week

After heavy speculation on transfer deadline day, the French forward remained at Stamford Bridge.

He played no part in the match against Watford and is also out of the Manchester United game with a calf strain.

Hiddink did however confirm that he will return to the squad next week.

John Terry to get good reception

John Terry: Set for good reception

The interim manager also guaranteed that Terry would get a great reception during his first home match since publicly announcing plans to leave having not received a contract offer.

Hiddink said: “He was very well received at Watford.

“They supported and cheered him and sang his name; I hope for a good reaction.”

Manchester United problems pale in comparison

Louis van Gaal: Under pressure

Hiddink was asked about his relationship with Louis van Gaal and Manchester United's recent struggle for form.

However, the Blues boss insisted he had enough on his plate at Chelsea.

“I'm not going into problems at other clubs,” he said.

“We can talk about Man United but I am wearing different colours.

“Every club goes through periods where they worry.

“We are getting back on track but I would like a few more victories.

“The team is stable and we are now hoping for a beautiful spring.”
