Bedfont Green are set to follow the capture of Russell Miner from neighbours and Combined Counties Premier rivals Bedfont with another signing.

Boss Dennis Bainborough landed striker Miner to replace goal-machine Aaron McLeish, who has climbed three leagues to join Blue Square South outfit Thurrock.

Green fought off competition from a Ryman League club to land Miner.

Secretary Stewart Cook said: "Russell is a strong front-man with an eye for goal, who can hold the ball up and bring others into play.

"We were delighted to capture him as our good start to the season has ben hit by injuries to Phil and Tom Merritt, top scorer Adie Barrance and Ray Sherwood, as well as McLeish's departure."

Miner sat it out on Saturday as Green beat Rothwell Corinthians 6-1 in the FA Vase second qualifying round.

Barrance was back and opened the scoring for Green, but Chris Henry was the hero in front of goal with a well-taken hat-trick.

Gavin Hart also netted, as did man-of-the-match Jon-Barrie Bates. They will now travel to FC Clacton in the first round proper on Saturday week.

Before that, Green return to Combined Counties Premier action on Saturday when they visit Cobham, before hosting Banstead Athletic on Tuesday.
