Dominic Poleon’s third goal of the week secured a last-gasp win for AFC Wimbledon over Chesterfield – the Dons’ first win at league One level.

The summer arrival who struck a double in Tuesday night’s League trophy win over Swansea U23s, rose from the bench to crack home in the 90th minutes as Neal Ardley’s side came from behind for the win which lifts them off the bottom.

Two goalkeeping errors enlivened a sluggish start.

Chesterfield keeper Ryan Fulton was the first to err by kicking an attempted clearance straight to Jake Reeves. To his credit Fulton recovered to catch the midfielder’s goal-bound effort.

Then Ryan Clarke allowed an aimless ball forward to bounce over his head and needed a defender to save his blushes.

Dons’ keeper did better with a Ched Evans effort just before the half hour, parrying it over the top. But six minutes later the visitors stole in front.

Control: Andy Barcham

The goal was a set piece disaster with Darius Charles heading Dion Donohue’s right wing corner into his own net in an attempt to clear.

The hosts responded with a Lyle Taylor shot deflected over by the boot of Gary Liddle, but they trailed at the break.

Evans missed a glorious chance to double the lead five minutes after the break, firing wide after Jon Meades carelessly gave the ball away.

But at the other end Tyrone Barnett saw a shot deflected behind and on 53 minutes Dons were level.

George Francomb, in his first league start of the season after injury delivered a dangerous left-wing corner and Paul Robinson got the vital touch to guide the ball inside the far post.

Taylor sent another effort into the side netting as Dons briefly took charge, but the Spireites regained control and should have re-taken the lead when substitute Conor Wilkinson thumped an effort against the inside of the post with 19 minutes to play.

Wilkinson forced another fine stop from Clarke, while Reeves blazed over for Dons.

But Poleon, part of a triple substitution by Ardley with 15 to play latched onto Reeves’ past in the last minute of normal time to fire unerringly into the bottom corner.
