CHELSEA striker Fernando Torres hopes his starring role in tonight’s Capital One Cup triumph over Swindon has given Jose Mourinho something to think about.
Torres scored one and made one against the Robins as the Blues cruised into the fourth round after a convincing 2-0 win at the County Ground.
The Spaniard had been benched for Saturday’s derby clash at home to Fulham but seized his chance with both hands against Swindon.
And Torres hopes that his man of the match display has put him in contention for this weekend’s trip to Tottenham.
He said: “We all know the Cups in England, both of them, are important. I’m very happy for the performance of the team. Everyone is happy. I’m happy to be back in the line-up.
“I think in the last couple of seasons I’ve been more involved in the cup competitions than the Premier League and I’m scoring more goals in the cup. Hopefully I will have the chance to play more in the Premier Leauge and score more goals.
“We know the season is long. We have a big squad and all have to be involved. It’s difficult to play in this great team but we are all fighting for the positions.”
Torres has scored twice this season but is yet to find the net in the Premier League, his only other goal coming in the Super Cup defeat to Bayern Munich.
