Glenn Hoddle last night followed Harry Redknapp out the door at QPR.

Redknapp called it quits as R’s manager as he prepares to undergo knee surgery.

And former England boss Hoddle, who joined the coaching team at Rangers last summer, has followed suit after announcing his decision last night.

In a statement released on Zapsportz.com, Hoddle expressed his surprise at the 67-year-old’s decision to step down from the Loftus Road helm.

He said: "I am a bit shocked and surprised [about Redknapp leaving] to tell you the truth.

"We all know football is a results-orientated business but I always felt that given a few more games, Harry could have turned it around down there at the bottom.

"It would have only taken a couple of good results to have achieved that as it is very tight down there.

"But that's football for you. I have enjoyed coming back into coaching and I thanked Harry for giving me that opportunity to tip my toe back into the coaching arena.

"I have enjoyed every minute. I wished him all the best and I do sincerely hope QPR can stay up.

“I would love the players to turn it around as I have enjoyed working with them - and hope I have improved them.”

Despite appearing to say goodbye in that statement, Hoddle remains one of the bookies’ favourites to replace Redknapp in the dugout.

Tim Sherwood remains the overwhelming favourite to take up the post, with Les Ferdinand and Chris Ramsey placed in temporary charge by Tony Fernandes.
