Brentford co-director of football Phil Giles is pleased with the Bees' transfer activity during the summer window that saw 12 new faces arrive but believes it will take time for everything to gel.

Akaki (Andy) Gogia, Ryan Williams, Andreas Bjelland, Konstantin Kerschbaumer, Yoann Barbet, Josh McEachran, Philipp Hofmann, Lasse Vibe, Maxime Colin, Marco Djuricin, Sergi Canos all made the move to Griffin Park.

And Giles believes the squad is in good health for the upcoming months in the season.

“It's been a lot of work but we're pretty happy with what we did. It's been interesting, fun and educational,” Giles told GetWestLondon .

“Overall, I'm pretty happy, given the turnover, and think we've done pretty well.”

Sold: Andre Gray

The headline move was Andre Gray joining Burnley for a fee that could surpass £10million, including add-ons and sell-on fee, but Giles also revealed there were players Brentford refused to sell.

He said: “At some level there has to be core stability. We had to say we'll keep some players. We have said to clubs a player is not for sale at any price.”

Brentford may make a further addition in the loan window but the club would not be making many moves to borrow players.

The co-director of football explained: “There's nobody lined up at the minute but if it develops with a player we think will be good for us. It could happen. It'd only be one to cover a position or another.”

With such a new squad put together, Giles warned it could take time to see the full potential realised.

Took time to settle: Jota

“I know it took time for guys like Jota to come into a successful team last season with stable management,” he said. “We've played four games out of 46 and have 42 games remaining.

“There have been spells in games where we have looked good but have had spells where we didn't look so good. Matthew Benham will be there for a long long time and we'll get it right.

“Matthew is relaxed. He's fine. I think he's enjoying it. He's a Brentford fan. I'm guessing he's been dreaming of it for 20 years.

“He has ambitions for the club and wants to see the club progress. We're not planning this transition every summer. I think he's pretty happy with things.”
