Felix Magath reckons Fulham need six wins from their remaining 12 games to stay in the Premier League.

The German coach goes into his first match in charge against West Brom on Saturday with the Cottagers bottom of the table, four points from safety.

However, the 60-year-old, who replaced Rene Meulensteen at the helm on Friday , reckons Fulham will extend their 13-year stay in the top flight if they hit the 38-point mark.

Barking orders: Fulham boss Felix Magath

He said: “We need six victories. Now we are in a serious situation. We have a lot of work to do to avoid relegation but my first days with the team have been very good and I’m sure we’ll avoid it.

“But it’s not the time to dream. We have a special situation and we have to work together, stay together and fight. That is all that matters.

"I have my own way and my own opinion of playing football. Look at how we played at Wolfsburg – that’s the way I want to see my team play.

“I was also sacked a few times in my career. I know the situation and I’m sorry for each coach but the management [of the club] waited a long time.

“If you want to change something, you have to do it now – change the team, the atmosphere, to have a chance to stay in the league. It doesn’t look like it worked well enough [in the past].”
