Peter Grant has ruled himself out of the running for the Fulham managers' job.

The former Norwich City number one, who joined the Whites as a coach in June last year, was appointed caretaker-manager only three days before today's 1-1 draw at MK Dons.

Although Alan Curbishley looked after team affairs during the international break following Kit Symons' sacking, it was Grant in the dugout at Stadium: MK.

But Grant, who has been coaching the U21s at Craven Cottage for the past year, is not interested in throwing his name into the hat.

Not coming: Steve Clarke

He said: “No, not at all. I'm here to do a job for the club while they look for a replacement, and I will help in any way I can.

“It's got to be the right appointment, someone who can take us back into the Premier League, so it could take some time, and if it does I'll be delighted to carry on.

“I don't know the background of what happened with Steve Clarke (who looked set to take the job on Thursday before ruling himself out on Friday), but I was delighted to take the opportunity.

“I was only asked on Wednesday to step in, I was preparing for an U21s game. I've only been with the players for two days, but I have worked with most of them already.”

Stepping down: Grant wants to return to his former duties, like Lee Carsley at Brentford

In removing his name from the running, Grant's position is similar to that of Lee Carsley, who today took his last match as caretaker-manager of Brentford, where he has insisted all along that he doesn't want the job.

Grant too said he will not change his mind, even if he enjoys a run of form at Fulham like Carsley has had with the Bees while taking temporary charge.

He added: "Not even then. For Peter Grant, read Lee Carsley!"
