Fulham defender Ragnar Sigurdsson has left the west London club to sign for Rubin Kazan - a Russian association football club based in the city of Kazan in the Republic of Tatarstan.

The Icelandic defender has joined the Russian Premier League side on a season-long loan deal.

Fulham said in a club statement: "The club can confirm that Ragnar Sigurdsson has joined Rubin Kazan on a season-long loan deal. The centre-back scored once in 18 appearances for the Whites last term. We wish Ragnar the best of luck during his time in Russia."

Sigurdsson was an integral part of the Iceland team who exceeded all expectations at this summer’s European Championship in France, playing every minute as the Nordic nation reached the Quarter-Finals, where they were eventually knocked out by the host nation.

The defender signed a two-year deal, with an option on another 12 months, at Fulham last summer.
