For Denis Odoi - the jury’s out whether Idrissa Sylla will make it big with QPR.

Fans of Fulham and Hoops may be closer to a firm opinion should the former Anderlecht striker comes face to face on Saturday with a player he knows only too well from their time in Belgium.

Odoi joined Whites from Lokeren in the summer.

And so far in the public consciousness is best remembered for that flick with his back over the head of hapless Newcastle defender Paul Dummett in the 1-0 win on the opening evening of the Championship. See below for a reminder.

Odoi admits he’s finding his way in England - and thinks Sylla may also be making tentative steps.

“I think he is a good striker, but we will see how he handles life in England,” added the Fulham defender.

For all that, the right-back hopes that if Sylla does appear in the big west London derby, after all, he got his first Championship start against Birmingham on Saturday, the right-back hopes it won't have the same impact as the 2014 Belgian Cup final when Odoi’s Lokeren faced Sylla’s, Zulte Waregam.

Championship debut: Idrissa Sylla against Birmingham

As it turned out, Odoi was part of a 1-0 win on the day, but Sylla hit a post for the underdogs and was praised for his performance.

“I played against him when he was in Zulte Waregam,” he said.

“We played in the cup final and for me he was one of the most difficult strikers to play against. I know I was not playing straight against him as full-back, but I think he is a good striker.”
