FULHAM are closing in on the signing of former Hamburg frontman Mladen Petric .

Whites boss Martin Jol has made a new striker one of his main priorities after losing Andy Johnson and Pavel Pogrebnyak this week.

And Jol looks to have beaten Malaga, Deportivo and Real Sociedad to the signing of 31-year-old Petric, who he worked with during his time in charge of Hamburg.

The Croatian smashed 38 goals in 98 games since his switch from Borussia Dortmund in 2008, but was shown the door at the end of the season.

Jol has offered Petric, who struggled with injures last campaign, the chance of a fresh start in England, with the former Grasshopers Zurich and FC Basel frontman due to undergo a medical later today.
