Reading turned up to Craven Cottage with a gameplan - to stop Fulham playing their expansive brand of football.

And for the most part, it worked.

It was hardly for the purists - the niggly fouls, the slowing down of play - but Jaap Stam will have been the happier of the two manager to have come away with a draw, putting them at an advantage going back to the Madejski Stadium on Tuesday night.

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic revealed he had no issues with the way the Royals chose to play, insisting his side played the better football.

He said: "Reading chose the way. They didn't give us space to accommodate.

"This is completely legal their style. They put on the pitch a very strong and physical game. It's in the limit of the legal situation and they arrived with a clear plan and it's working for them and it worked for an hour.

"At the end, we found a way to score a goal and I believe we played better football than Reading played."
