Barnet new signing Shaun Batt is already feeling reinvigorated with the Bees following an agonising campaign with Leyton Orient.

The 28-year-old was released by Orient after a turbulent time both on and off the pitch cost the O’s - who slipped into relegation from League One as a result.

And the journeyman forward has revealed the contrast could not be greater after leaving a club recently relegated for one just promoted.

“There was a lot of negativity last year and a lot of problems on and off the field, it was just a combination of things,” he said.

“We had a great first year where we just missed out on promotion and then Barry sold the club and things changed with a lot of different managers. A lot of rules changed and it wasn't a nice place to be.”

“It's nice to come to a club like Barnet where it's fresh, full of life and positivity,” Batt continued.

Everyone is optimistic and I'm all on board with that.”

Mad Dog: Barnet manager Martin Allen has helped Batt settle

And with a tasty return to Brisbane Road on the opening day of the season, Batt will be licking his lips at the prospect of helping the Bees get off to the best possible start.

“I'm raring to go and hope to be up to speed by the time the Orient game comes along.

“I've really enjoyed my first few weeks. The gaffer has been really good to me and helped me get to know the lads quickly and get used to the new surroundings.

“He's not rushed me and beasted me from day one. He's getting me up to the high fitness levels the lads have set.

“I'm more than certain we'll get the result that we need.”
